Illustration Work for the Rolling Stone Magazine & the University and College Designers Association
An editorial illustration series of vibrant illustrations inspired by by the iconic psychedelic band posters of the 1960s and 70s. Taylor Swift Midnights illustration was created for the album review section for Rolling Stone Magazine, and the mindul illustration was created for a poster competition hosted by the UCDA.
INSPIRATION & PROCESS - TAYLOR SWIFT’S MIDNIGHTS ALBUM
Taking inspiration from the various editions of the Midnights album on vinyl and the groovy look and feel of 1960s and 70s poster designs, I began to digitally sketch Taylor Swift in various poses to capture her in a fun, groovy aesthetic. I ultimately settled on a portrait of her looking to the side, surrounded by her album’s song titles rendered in hand-lettered typography. The colors were particularly inspired by the lavender and blood moon editions of the vinyl. The final illustration was created and completed in Photoshop.
INSPIRATION & PROCESS - UCDA MINDFUL POSTER COMPETITION
Taking inspiration from the theme of “mindful,” I looked at the bold psychedelic posters from the 1960s and 70s and vintage medical diagrams from Dr. Alesha Sivartha’s Book of Life, published in 1898. I mixed these styles with hand-drawn lettering to create a lively illustration that shows a sense of movement. This artwork reflects my view of mindfulness and encourages the audience to connect with the idea in a fun and eye-catching way. There were many iterations before settling on the final design direction. The final piece was created and completed in Procreate.
